We all knew the likelihood of Van Alstyne High School’s Panthers varsity football team playing every game listed on its schedule this season was very low.
That prospect became reality when news broke late last week that Gainesville ISD had a couple of positive COVID-19 cases on its football team and suspended its next two weeks of games, which included a scheduled match up against the Panthers on Sept. 18.
The game was was slated to be part of Van Alstyne’s homecoming festivities. Instead, homecoming has been rescheduled to Sept. 25, when the Panthers will host Farmersville.
The Panthers are looking for a game to put on this week’s schedule, however, as of Sept. 15, there was one slated.
Coach Mikeal Miller said something may still work out. On Sept. 14, there was a team that was willing to play the Panthers, however those plans ultimately fell through.
