Valerie Young had 11 kills, 11 assists and 15 digs on Friday as the first-place Lady Panthers defeated Leonard, 25-13, 25-19, 25-10, to clinch a playoff spot in District 10-3A action.


Janessa Crawford put down nine kills, Samantha Moore chipped in eight kills, Hannah Hemphill added seven kills, Micah Welch totaled 6 kills, 22 assists and six digs, Sydney Sullivan finished with six digs and three aces, Lindi Boling collected 24 digs and Darcey Earley had 23 digs for Van Alstyne (27-4, 8-0).


In Van Alstyne on Oct. 8, Moore and Crawford each put down nine kills as the first-place Lady Panthers defeated fourth-place Blue Ridge, 25-14, 25-8, 25-23, in district action.


Young totaled seven kills, 12 assists and seven digs, Sydney Ingram added five kills, Welch handed out 23 assists to go with 13 digs and four kills and Boling collected 28 digs for Van Alstyne.


Van Alstyne was back in action Tuesday at third-place Bells, but that match was played after press time for this issue. The Lady Panthers’ next match will be Friday against Bonham, and will then wrap up the regular season next Tuesday at home against Whitewright and Friday against Howe.
