LONGVIEW — The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets chalked up their second American Southwest Conference soccer victory in a row, defeating LeTourneau, 2-1, in double overtime Thursday night to keep their postseason hopes alive.

HPU’s Michael Westerman recorded the game-winning goal on a penalty kick 103 minutes and 15 seconds after the match started.

Howard Payne (5-8, 4-6) scored first 12:56 into the contest, then LeTourneau drew even at 1-all with 9:27 left before halftime as Zachariah Malik scored unassisted.

The Yellow Jackets attempted 17 shots with eight on goal — three by Westerman and one each by Zachary Moreno, Reid Longabaugh, Spencer Lyon and Angel Rivas.

LeTourneau (6-7-2, 5-4-1) took 14 shots with four on frame, as ASC Tri-Defensive Player of the Week Andrew Hackney recorded three saves.

The Yellow Jackets conclude the regular season at East Texas Baptist at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

LONGVIEW — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets came up on the short end of their seventh consecutive soccer match, falling to LeTourneau, 3-1, Thursday night in American Southwest Conference action.

HPU (2-11-1, 2-7-1) scored its lone goal with 58 seconds left in regulation as Brooke Gibbs found the back of the net on a penalty kick.

LeTourneau (11-4-1, 7-3) scored with 13:39 left in the first half on a deflection off an HPU player. Just 8:02 into the second half, LeTourneau added the decisive goal from Jennifer Martin. Then, with 15:28 left, Kelli Sonnier tacked on an insurance goal.

The Lady Jackets attempted 13 shots with eight on goal — three by Lesly Garia and one apiece by Gibbs, Mariah Gonzales, Kaitlyn Harrison, Dayane Gutierrez and Chrissa Manning.

LeTourneau attempted 25 shots with 17 on target, as Delaney Castor collected 14 saves for HPU.

The Lady Jackets wrap up their season at East Texas Baptist at 5 p.m. Saturday.
