LONE OAK — It was a hard fought 4-3 victory for the Lady Bulldogs over Lone Oak in District 10-3A action on Monday, March 12.
Lone Oak jumped out early in the first inning that started with a walk then two singles off Howe starter Torrey Stubblefield that allowed the Lady Buffaloes to take a 1-0 lead. Howe picked up a hit in the first inning but was unable to get any runners across home.
Stubblefield struck out the side in the top of the second but Howe was unable to capitalize on the lull in momentum, coming up hitless in the bottom of the second. However, in the third inning the Lady Bulldogs surged back — in the top of the third the Lady Buffaloes picked up one more run and three hits before Howe responded with three hits and two runs of its own, tying the game at two.
Howe managed to scratch another run in the fourth inning, while keeping Lone Oak from scoring until the fifth inning when it tied the score at three. Howe bounced back in the bottom of the inning after Erin Blackburn smacked a deep triple to left field.
She scored on a Peyton Streetman single to reclaim the lead. The Lady Bulldogs were able to maintain that slim advantage throughout the remainder of the game.
Streetman went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Blackburn went 3-for-4 and scored twice and Stubblefield went 1-for-4 and picked up the victory after striking out nine.
