The Lady Panthers rebounded from a cold shooting first half to post a 26-23, overtime win over Bland in Monday night’s action in the fall basketball league.
Van Alstyne could only manage seven, first-half points and trailed 14-7 at the break.
A basket by Kassie Price and two by Madison Reno got the Lady Panthers back in the game. Two free throws by Breanna McCaskill cut the Bland lead to just two.
Avery Duncan dropped in a corner three ball to gave the Lady Panthers a 21-20 lead, but Bland answered with a 3-pointer.
Duncan scored again from beyond the arc to tie the game, 23-23 at the end of regulation.
In the one minute overtime, Reno sent in a 3-pointer as the Lady Panthers held on for the three-point win.
Things didn’t go as well for the Howe Lady Bulldogs.
Whitewright, with Zada Swoopes doing most of the damage, outlasted the Lady Bulldogs, 43-34.
A Payton Griffin basket gave Howe an early lead and early in the contest the two teams were trading baskets.
Landry Rhoten got free in the paint for a bucket and Peyton Streetman drained a three from the top of the arc as Howe trailed by two.
Swoopes, who will be playing her senior season, was pretty much unstoppable. She hit from midrange, outside the arc and with moves in the paint to give Whitewright a 27-15 lead at the break.
Howe got to within seven at one point in the second half, but Swoopes led her team to the nine-point win.
