The Lady Panthers, all 10, got the District 10-3A season off to a positive start with a 3-1 win over the Lady Buffaloes of Lone Oak.
It was easy easy in the opening set as the Lady Panthers cruised to a 25-9 win.
Sadie Ingram, in her second match back after an injury, had a pair of late kills. One of those came after a diving dig by Shelby Litzkow.
Elizabeth Purser put in her third kill of the set for the winner.
Lone Oak upset our sweep plans, pulling out a 25-23 win in the second set. Alyssa Hill had two kills and Peyton Welch, playing with stitches after a door moved into her line of travel, had two kills late in the set.
Junior defensive specialist Janea Larriviere is playing with an undisclosed injury.
An ace by Micah Welch gave Van Alstyne a 4-0 start in the third set and kills by Torin Riddick, Sydney Ingram and Sadie got the Lady Panthers off to a 10-5 start.
Lone Oak closed the gap to 11-9 and from that point on it was all VA.
Two kills by Hill started a 14-0 run and two kills and a block by Purser closed it out as the Lady Panthers win, 25-9.
The fourth set was a little bit from Micah Welch and Sadie Ingram.
Some more help by Peyton Welch and Litzkow and a whole lot of Purser. The sophomore had a block and a kill early, a kill to tie the set at 7-7, and two kills late as Van Alstyne seals the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.
District play continues on Sept. 16 as the Lady Panthers host a very talented Farmersville team with varsity starting at 4:30 p.m.

Protect the home court. That's the message for the Lady Panthers and
they were successful with a 3-0 sweep over Whitewright last Tuesday night. Things get a bit tougher on Sept. 16 as Farmersville comes to town and the Lady Farmers are legit.
After winning a close one, 27-25 in the opening set, the Lady Panthers had little problem with Whitewright in the next two.
The Lady Panthers' posted 25-13 and 25-15 wins to complete the sweep.
Peyton Welch had 10 kills, seven digs and 10 assists and Liz Purser had six kills and five digs against the Lady Tigers
Alyssa Hill sent in four kills and contributed a pair of digs and two blocks for the defense.
Micah Welch had 14 assists and eight digs while Shelby Litzkow had an ace and 24 digs. Lindi Boling chipped in 11 digs for the night.
