With a couple of key players not at 100 percent and senior Kayla Anderson still forced to the sidelines with an ankle problem, the Howe Lady Bulldogs dropped their first three matches at the Whitesboro tournament on Aug. 25.

Senior Anna Counts sent in a pair of service winners as Howe won the second set of its opening match with Blue Ridge. The Lady Tigers came back to win the match with a 25-19 effort in the third set.

Howe got off to a good start in the second match, outscoring Collinsville 25-17 in the opening set. Emily Sanders had three early kills and Kamryn Fulenchek scored late in the Lady Bulldog win.

Collinsville prevailed in the next two set to take the match.

It was a tired Lady Bulldog team that went into the final match of the day, and Gunter pulled out the two-set win. Mati Abner finished with 16 kills in the match and Sanders had 13. Megan Davies added seven kills and Dreanna McAdams chipped in five.

Valley View 3, Howe 0

The Valley View Lady Eagles visited Howe on Aug. 30, and the two teams played an extremely close match before the visitors came away with the 3-0 sweep.

Six points separated the two teams at the end of the contest and Valley View had all six of those points.

There were 27 ties in the three sets and Howe got into ties late in the first two sets, 23-23 in the first and 24-24 in the second, but could never push across the winning point.

If our numbers are correct Mati Abner had 11 kills in the match and Emily Sanders had nine.

The Lady Bulldogs travel to Collinsville on Sept. 2 and host Denton Braswell on Sept. 6 in the final non-district match of the season.
