Velmer Lee Ratcliff-Williams departed life into eternity on July 9, 2020 at 2:01p.m. at her residence. Born on April 17, 1944, in Tylertown, Mississippi. A resident of Van Alstyne for many years, leaves to cherish precious memories her beloved sons, Jimmy Lee Ratcliff (Iris) and Jimmy Lee Jones, sisters Bernese Roberts and Elizabeth Wilson (James), Rosie Smith, brothers Robert, William, R.C.(Liz) Ratcliff and one uncle, Willie Sims. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Leavie Sims-Ratcliff, brothers Harris Lee, Roosevelt, and Andrew Ratcliff; one sister, Avery Nell R. Gipson. She also leaves to mourn her passing eight grandchildren and two great- grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends. Velmer’s dedication to God, family, her church was her passion. She was a pillar of strength and guidance to everyone who sought her advice and direction. She enjoyed cooking, caring for others and old spiritual songs.
A come-and-go visitation will be held on July 16 from 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held on July 17 at 11 a.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel with pastor S.T. Gipson officiating. Velmer’s final resting place will be at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. The family has requested for the funeral services to be recorded and will be posted the following day on Velmer’s, obituary wall for family and friends to view.
