For the Van Alstyne Leader

The Van Alstyne Senior Center’s informational series of 2019, which was put on hold late last year, picks up again with two sessions in February.

Sharon Phillips, of 65 and Beyond. is a certified Medicare Health Insurance advisor in Texas and Oklahoma. She knows that Medicare can be confusing.

The first session, “10 Things You Didn’t Know About Medicare,” runs from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Feb. 3. This lecture, Phillips said, will include such information as what Part B deductibles are and help people understand whether they are eligible for special enrollment.

On Feb. 7, Phillips will talk about “Medicare Doesn’t Start on my 65th Birthday?” from 6:30-7:30 p.m. She said that she is scheduling this second workshop for the later hour to better accommodate the seniors still employed.

“Medicare changes every year, and it’s hard to keep up with the changes and all the options,” Phillips said. “I will be explaining Part A, Part B, and Part D, as well as enrollment options - options that help anyone get started or get a better grip on Medicare.”

Both sessions are free and open not only to seniors, but to their families and to people of any age who need this information. Phillips will have hand-outs to take home.

Phillips asks that those wanting to attend RSVP to either or both workshops by calling Senior Center Director Joyce White, 903-482-6341. The Senior Center is at 112 S. Main Drive.
