After a busy Fall raising flags at the Van Alstyne football games on Friday nights and serving the community in several other ways, local Boy Scout Troop 44 will hold its annual barbecue on Saturday, Dec. 14, following the Van Alstyne Christmas Parade, as has become an annual tradition. Alongside Cub Scouts from Pack 6 and local Girl Scout and Venture Scout groups, the Boy Scouts look forward to hosting this event every year to interact with the community and show their appreciation for its support.
The dinner will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church Sanford Center Gym. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for kids under 10. The menu includes sliced brisket, sausage, chicken, beans, coleslaw, salad, macaroni and cheese, green beans, dinner rolls and a variety of Dutch oven cobblers with ice cream for dessert.
The troop is also taking orders for pre-cooked brisket for those who would like to purchase them whole (or half) for family celebrations at home. They are $90 for a whole brisket, $50 for half and $40 for a pork butt. Those can be picked up after Dec. 7. Brisket orders and to-go orders for the dinner can be placed by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
There will also be a silent auction for a variety of baskets and items the scouts have been busy collecting from businesses throughout the area, including gift cards and camping and cook-out gear. These items make great Christmas gifts for family and friends, with the purchase price going to a great cause.
Sponsored by the Friends of Van Alstyne Scouting, all proceeds from the barbecue will go toward the utilities, insurance and upkeep for the Scout Hut, which is used by Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Venture Crew.
