VAN ALSTYNE — The Panthers varsity baseball squad continues their tear with a, 6-2, victory over the Bonham Warriors in district their 10-3A matchup.


Van Alstyne put a number on the board in the bottom of the first after keeping the Warriors offense at bay in the top of the inning — a walk and hit by pitch gave the Panthers their first runners of the ballgame and a costly error by the Bonham third baseman gave Van Alstyne a 1-0 lead without even having to swing a bat.


The Panthers continued the scoring in the bottom of the third after Fowler led things off with a deep double into left field and made his way to third on an error by the left fielder. Jordan Caldwell followed with an RBI sac-fly to make it a 2-0 Panther lead.


Another run crossed the plate for the Panthers in the bottom of the fifth after back to back triples by Caldwell and Zach Smith, who picked up his first RBI of the ballgame and gave Van Alstyne a 3-0 lead.


Bonham finally responded in the top of the sixth, scoring off an RBI double and costly error by the Panthers, making it a 3-2 game.


The Panthers, however, weren’t feeling like having a close game. Van Alstyne ripped off three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, scoring off an RBI double by Tyler Wilson, an RBI double by Nathan Cuthbertson, and an RBI single by Jake Carroll to give the Panthers their final lead and win.


Caldwell went 1-3 with an RBI and run scored, Wilson went 1-3 with an RBI and runs scored, Cuthbertson went 1-3 with an RBI and run scored, Smith went 1-3 with an RBI, and Fowler went 1-2 with a run scored.
