HOWE — Despite some gritty play by the Lady Bulldogs were unable to overcome a red-hot Leonard Lady Tigers offense in their District 10-3A softball matchup. Dropping the game, 20-7, after the Lady Tigers captured an early lead.
Leonard put up four runs in the top of the first inning, smacking a two-RBI single followed by a monster two-RBI triple into centerfield, giving the Lady Tigers a 4-0 advantage right out of the gate.
Howe responded with a single and a walk by then in the bottom of the first, Alexia Womack hit a dribbler to the Leonard third baseman allowing a Lady Bulldog runner to score, giving Womack an RBI groundout and putting the score at 4-1.
The Lady Tigers exploded for five runs in the top of the second — an error by the Lady Bulldogs opened up the scoring in the inning, an RBI triple followed, and a slew of singles did the rest of the work to give Leonard a demanding 9-1 lead.
Leonard managed to pick up two more runs in the top of the third off an RBI groundout and another Lady Bulldog error, the score now 11-1.
Howe began climbing back in the bottom of the third — Womack started off the inning with a walk before scoring off an error by the Leonard pitcher two batters later, Trinity Williams picked up an RBI with a sharp single into left, and a long two-RBI triple by Chloe Loftice cleared the bases and put the score at 11-5.
Unfortunately, after only picking up a run in the top of the fourth, Leonard went on a tear in the top of the fifth. Scoring eight runs and collecting eight hits all with two outs in the inning, giving Leonard their final score of the game and putting victory out of Howes’ reach.
Howe picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, two RBI singles by Loftice and G Lankford to wrap up the scoring for Howe and give the game its final score.
Loftice had a fantastic 2-3 game for the Lady Bulldogs with two RBIs and a runs scored, Womack went 1-2 with an RBI and run scored, Williams went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Kriston Harris went 1-3.
