Logan McCrummen pitched a one-hitter and Andrew Pratt and James Hardberger homered in the second inning, leading Lubbock Christian University to an 11-1 victory Saturday against Texas A&M International in a baseball series finale at Hays Field.
McCrummen (2-2) shook off two walks and a run-scoring wild pitch in the first inning to go the distance in the seven-inning game, which ended by run rule. The junior righthander from Coronado walked three and struck out four.
Pratt's solo homer and Hardberger's two-run drive made it 3-1 in the second, and the Chaparrals added four in the third. Pratt, Keaton Greenwalt and Will Clark each hit RBI singles, and Hardberger drove in the other run with a fielder's choice.
Greenwalt finished 3 for 4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Eddy Vasquez drove in two runs with a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly, and Clark added an RBI triple in the three-run seventh.
LCU (16-8) and TAMIU (9-17) are Heartland Conference teams, but the games did not count in the Heartland standings. It was the last of three non-conference series for the Chaps against Heartland opponents. They start conference play this week at Arkansas-Fort Smith.
WICHITA, Kan. — Taylor Franco struck out 14 in a complete game and Breanna Anderson hit a go-ahead two-run homer, pushing Lubbock Christian University to a 5-2 victory against Newman and a sweep of the three-game Heartland Conference series.
Franco (6-4), a freshman righthander from Monahans, allowed four hits and no walks.
Lauren Kuhrt's run-scoring groundout gave Newman (4-15, 2-10)) a 2-1 lead in the third, but LCU (17-7, 8-4) rallied for three runs in the fourth.
Newman pitcher Bailey Bugner (1-4) retired the first two batters, but walked Morgan Dufour before Anderson launched her homer to center field for a 3-2 lead. Alexa Riggs singled and stole second, and Savannah Wysocki tripled her home, chasing Bugner.
Alexis Reed's RBI groundout in the fifth ended the scoring.
