VAN ALSTYNE — The Lady Panther varsity softball put on an insane display of offense in their narrow, 13-12, victory over Lone Oak on March. 1.


Van Alstyne started the game off hot with bullet into center by Abigail Lang; another single followed by a fielders choice brought the first Lady Panther runner around to score making it a 1-0 Van Alstyne lead early.


Lone Oak came back in a hurry in the bottom of the first after a towering triple into right field granted the Lady Buffaloes a scoring opportunity, an errant throw allowed the Lone Oak baserunner to score from third, making it a 1-1 game. After 2 straight walks, an error by the Van Alstyne third baseman allowed another Lone Oak run to cross, giving them a 2-1 lead before the end of the inning.


The Lady Panthers offense exploded in the top of the second scoring 5 runs off of 5 straight hits, the inning was capped off after an error by Lone Oak brought the sixth and final run of the inning for Van Alstyne around to score; the Lady Panthers took a strong 7-2 lead and put together an impressive 6 hits with 2 outs in the inning.


Unfortunately for Van Alstyne, Lone Oak refused to go quietly, the Lady Buffaloes put together a high scoring inning of their own together in the bottom of the second — a walk and a single started things off for Lone Oak, they followed up with a 2 RBI single into centerfield, an error two batters later allowed another Buffalo to cross the plate, an error on the Van Alstyne first baseman allowed two more Lone Oak runs to score making it a 7-7 ballgame before a strikeout ended the inning.


Jennah Williams managed to break the tie in Van Alstyne’s’ favor in the top of the third inning with an RBI groundout that made it a 8-7 Lady Panther lead.


Lone Oak immediately fired back with a 2 run homer into right field, making it a 9-8 Buffalo lead. However Lone Oak wasn’t done there, they managed to string together 3 more runs in the inning, after an unfortunate slew of Van Alstyne errors followed by 2 Lone Oak singles to make it a 12-8 lead for the Lady Buffaloes.


The Lady Panthers refused to quit in the top of the fourth, showing true grit and determination to get the win. Van Alstyne capitalized on 2 Lone Oak errors that both resulted in runs and a deep double by Kelsie Adams to take the final lead of the ballgame and securing their victory.


Adams ended her dominate game going 3-4 with 3 RBI’s and 3 runs scored, Williams went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored, Ameryss Brogdon made a huge contribution going 1-3 with 3 RBI’s and a run scored, and Jayna Stephens went 3-3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.


The Lady Panthers will square off against Howe in district play on March. 11.
