During the week between Dec. 3-10, Van Alstyne Police investigated four incidents and had 144 calls for service, reported Police Chief Tim Barnes.

Arrest — Dec. 7, police arrested two men in separate incidents.

The first arrested was a 39-year-old Denison man who police determined had two outstanding warrants. The first warrant was related to a June charge of failure to appear on a theft of property incident. The second warrant was for theft of property between $100-$750. A magistrate set combined bail at a total of $3,500, and as of Tuesday the suspect remained incarcerated in the Grayson County Jail. That arrest happened in the 200 block of San Antonio Street.

Then later that day, a 34-year-old Sherman man, a friend of the first suspect, went to the police station on the business regarding the earlier arrest of his friend. While there, Van Alstyne Police found him in possession of methamphetamine, a controlled substance in an amount between 4-200 grams and placed him under arrest. A magistrate set his bail at $10,000 and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles added a charge of parole violator against the suspect. He remains incarcerated without making bail or bond. A search of public information shows this suspect previously served time for assault on a public servant.

Wreck — Officers and paramedics responded to a two-car wreck on the west service road of U.S. Highway 75 around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. They found the offending driver, a 31-year-old Van Alstyne man, to be intoxicated. He was taken by ambulance to Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center in Sherman and police are considering filing a driving while intoxicated charge on him.
