Incorporating Fall themes from Halloween through Christmas, the Van Alstyne Jazz Band will perform a free concert for the community on Thursday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Van Alstyne High School cafeteria. Van Alstyne Band Boosters will provide seasonal refreshments.

Two different student-led jazz combo groups will be performing, and this will be the only time to hear them this semester as they will not be performing at the annual band Christmas concert in December.

“The students are doing a great job learning their music, as well as many of them learning to play a new instrument,” Fine Arts Director Tim Fulton said. “In addition, they are really embracing the concept and the feel of jazz music – I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Two Van Alstyne Jazz Band students recently made the All-Region Jazz Band, participating in a clinic and performing a concert at the Greenhill School in Addison earlier this month. They were juniors Aaron Ethridge on Tenor Saxophone and Justin DeMond on Trumpet.

The Van Alstyne High School Marching Band, which capped off its marching season this year with another Sweepstakes performance at the UIL Regional Marching Band Competition, will march in the Van Alstyne Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 8. All band students, middle school through high school, will perform their annual Christmas Concert Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. in the High School gym. The Van Alstyne Choirs will also perform a Christmas Concert on Monday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m., in the High School cafeteria.
