Cesar Martinez, 22, of Amarillo was killed in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 70 Tuesday afternoon, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Martinez was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram 3500 van southbound on the highway when he dropped his cell phone, DPS stated. The passenger in the van, Javier Reyna, 26, of Canyon, reached down to pick up the phone. Martinez might have been "paying attention to" Reyna "and not the roadway," according to the DPS report.
Martinez "veered into (the) northbound lane sideswiping" the driver's side of a 2016 Kenworth truck pulling a 2018 JECTC flatbed trailer driven by Wade Lookingbill of Channing.
Martinez was killed at the scene, which was about 17 miles north of Pampa. Reyna suffered non-incapacitating injuries, was treated and released from Pampa Regional Medical Center, the department stated.
Lookingbill, 58, was not injured.
The crash is still under investigation by DPS Texas Highway Patrol.
