VAN ALSTYNE — Boy Scout Troop 44 in Van Alstyne honored a new Eagle Scout over the Thanksgiving holiday, Aaron Ethridge of Van Alstyne, at his home church, First Baptist VA. The Troop was honored to have State Representative Larry Phillips in attendance to present Aaron with a Texas flag flown over the State Capitol in his honor, as well as a U.S. flag Senator John Ratcliffe had flown over the national Capitol in recognition of Aaron’s acheivement.

Aaron is a 15-year-old sophomore at Van Alstyne High School, having attended school in Van Alstyne since kindergarten. He plays alto saxophone in the award-winning Van Alstyne High School Marching Band, and plays tenor saxophone in the VAHS Jazz Band, which has a performance scheduled at the Dallas Arboretum at noon on Friday, Dec. 8. In addition to his involvement in band, Boy Scouts and church, Aaron participates in extra-curricular activities at school, such as Science Club and Latin Club.

For his Eagle Project, Aaron led design and construction of a gazebo at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Van Alstyne, providing a beautiful outdoor relaxation area to be enjoyed by the residents.

Aaron is the son of Ron and Melany Ethridge of Van Alstyne and younger brother to Nathan, also an Eagle Scout and currently attending Texas A&M University Commerce. Aaron’s grandparents are Don and Betty Ethridge of Campbell, Texas, and Darryl and Sharah Pace of Royse City, Texas.

The Court of Honor ceremony was just one of a number of activities that keep the Scouts of Troop 44 in Van Alstyne busy throughout the holiday season. They will be participating, along with Cub Scouts in Pack 6, in the upcoming Van Alstyne Holiday Parade on Dec. 9, and will host their annual Scout Barbecue Fundraiser that evening at the First United Methodist Church, from 5:30 – 8 p.m. There will be a silent auction on some great Christmas gift items, as well.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for kids, available at the door or in advance from any Troop or Pack member. For more information, call 903-422-9491.
