They picked up the volleyball nets, dropped down the basketball goals and now we're playing fall basketball at Van Alstyne High School.

A dozen girls teams have entered this year's one-month run, forcing some games to relocate to Gunter High School.

On opening night, Sept. 19, teams from Van Alstyne and Howe were joined by teams from Bells, Leonard, Celina, Whitesboro, Sherman and Denison.

They were playing at VA while Gunter, Pottsboro, Bland and Whitewright girls' teams played in Gunter.

Howe, with seven players available, took on Leonard in the opener and this was a close game throughout.

With the teams tied at 36-36, the rules called for a one-minute overtime period and a 3-pointer by Jessi Bennett of Leonard was the difference as the Lady Tigers won, 39-36.

Landry Rhoten, Madisyn Hargrove, Peyton Streetman, Madison Kehrer, Payton Griffin, Callie Vick and Bethany Masters played for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Van Alstyne Lady Panthers had 14 players ready to go in game two as they faced Leonard.

The hosts prevailed 34-30 as Madison Reno dropped in a pair of late 3-pointers to hold off the Lady Tigers.
