A GoFundMe account has been set up for Howe resident Mark Hardy, who was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident on Aug. 23. Hardy was traveling southbound on 75 north of Farmington Road on a 2008 Honda Goldwing when he was struck by a cardboard box that was blown from the bed of a truck. The box caused Hardy to hit the concrete median where he was separated from the motorcycle, suffering severe facial lacerations, brain bleeding and other injuries.

Hardy, a captain with the Plano Fire Department, has had subsequent and extensive facial and knee surgery. According to the GoFundMe page set up to aid the family and update the community, these two surgeries are the first of many to come. The Hardy family is well known in the community as they have donated 25-plus years to help run the Howe Youth Cheer program.

The account to benefit the family can be found at gofundme.com by searching “Mark & Deidra Hardy Fund.” Within 24 hours the fund had received donations totaling $2,185.

An account has also been set up at the Howe Independent Bank in Howe under “Mark & Deidra Hardy Fund.” Those wishing to contribute can go to the any Independent Bank and make a donation to their account. Those with accounts at the bank already can even transfer funds electronically.
