AUSTIN – The Van Alstyne Panthers improved both their spot in the standings and their time after competing at the Class 3A state track meet on Friday, May 11, at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

The quartet of Jake Carroll, George Hall, Cameron Montgomery and Samuel Tormos finished sixth with a time of 3:25.65 to better what they did in 2017 – when the Panthers placed seventh with a time of 3:26.44.

They were part of a pack that finished off the podium. Shallowater was fourth in 3:24.88, Garrison was next at 3:24.29 in front of the Panthers and Clifton (3:25.88) and Lago Vista (3:25.98) were right behind Van Alstyne.

Yoakum, which was fourth in 2017, won the state championship in a time of 3:21.90 while Elkhart took silver in 3:23.29 and Sonora earned the bronze medal with a time of 3:23.66.
