HOWE — The Bulldogs capitalized on clutch hits and costly errors in their 12-0 win over Lone Oak on Friday, April 6.
Howe pitcher Bryce Krantz put on a show, keeping the Lone Oak bats quiet and picking up four strikeouts through the first two innings of play. The Bulldogs offense finally started to give their starter some run support in the bottom of the second, while a Lone Oak error at second put the first Howe run on the board. A Spencer Akins single brought around the second, making it a 2-0 Howe lead. Two singles and and an error allowed four more Bulldogs runs to cross giving Howe a dominant 6-0 lead.
The Bulldogs poured it on heavy in the bottom of the third — a Mason Riggs rocket to center field was good for a double to start the inning. Another Lone Oak error brought Riggs around to score, while Cirby Coheley followed it up with a sharp RBI single into left field to make it a 8-0 Howe lead. After another run scored on a Lone Oak error, Krantz helped his cause with deep sac fly into center field to bring a run across, making it a 10-0 ballgame.
Howe managed to score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth after two Lone Oak errors.
Dyson Dillard picked up a strike out in the top of the fifth and put Lone Oak away to complete the run rule victory.
Krantz finished his night going three innings and racking up five strikeouts, Dillard went two innings and had three strikeouts.
Akins ended the night going 1-for-4 with an RBI, Riggs went 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Coheley went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
