LEONARD — Taylor Stricklin scored on a two-out error in the bottom of the eighth inning as Leonard edged Howe, 3-2, in the District 10-3A softball opener on Monday night in a game postponed from last week due to rain.

Stricklin doubled to center after two quick outs, Claudia Ware was hit by a pitch and then the error allowed the winning run to score.

Ware was 2-for-3 with a homer, double and two RBI and Stricklin scored twice while scattering seven hits and a walk while striking out eight for Leonard (5-7, 1-0).

Torrey Stubblefield was 2-for-4 and scored and allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out nine, Peyton Streetman was 2-for-4 and Payton Griffin and Courtney Hopper drove in runs for Howe (2-8, 0-1).

Leonard took a 2-0 lead in the third when Stricklin walked with two outs and Ware homered to left.

Howe tied the game at two in the sixth when Griffin singled home Cassidy Anderson with one out and Hopper followed with a sacrifice fly to center.
