BELLS – Cade Courtney was 3-for-3 with a double and scored a run as Howe beat Bells, 5-4, in six innings in non-district action on Monday, Feb. 26.
Bryce Krantz was 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored, Parker Blount had a pair of RBI, Dyson Dillard was 2-for-2 and scored and Peyton Reagan was 2-for-3 with a double for Howe.
The Bulldogs jumped in front immediately with a three-run first inning. With one out, Garret Johnson, who was 2-for-4, singled to center and then he eventually stole home during Kyler Anderson’s at-bat which ended with a walk.
Anderson stole second and scored on Krantz’s double to left field to make it 2-0 and then Krantz scored on a steal of home.
Howe almost had a bigger inning but Regan was thrown out at home trying to score on Courtney’s double for the second out and then Dillard was out on a single after getting too far off first when the Bulldogs could have had runners at the corners.
Bells trimmed the deficit to a run when it scored twice in the bottom of the third. But Howe immediately restored its three-run advantage in the top of the fourth.
Courtney and Dillard singled to open the frame and with one out they both moved up on steals. Blount singled to center to drive in both runners.
The Panthers made it 5-4 in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs. But Bells was never able to get the tying run across against Mason Riggs, Anderson and Dillard, who got the final two outs for the save, and Howe held on for the victory despite Bells putting a pair of runners on base in its final at-bat.
Spencer Adkins was 2-for-4 and Krantz picked up the win for Howe.
