LEONARD — The Van Alstyne Panthers dished out a strong performance in a District 10-3A match up with Leonard, winning the game, 76-46, on Tuesday, Feb. 6.


The Panthers started the game off with a slow start, only netting 12 points in the first quarter. Noah Boling led the team with 9 points in the opening minutes. Fortunately for Van Alstyne Leonard only put up 8 points in the opening frame, letting the Panthers take an early lead.


The second quarter was another story, with the Panthers exploding with 23 points, Boling and Tyler Sperry did the bulk of the scoring with 6 points each in the second. Leonard could only net 10 more points towards their cause. The Panthers took a 34-18 lead with them into halftime.


Van Alstyne came out with a lot of energy in the third quarter, putting up 24 points in a hurry. Boling helped the effort with 10 points in the quarter. Leonard was held to another gain of 10 following behind too fast to catch up.


The two teams went blow for blow in the fourth quarter, both scoring 18 points in the frame. After building on an early lead the Panthers easily rode out the final minutes to a victory.


Boling finished up the game with a dominant 36 point performance. Sperry had 11 points for the Panthers.


The Panthers will be on the road against Commerce on Friday, Feb. 9.
