The Lady Panthers suffered a loss in their first game of the Highway 5 Tournament, 59-31, to Braswell on Dec. 7.
Braswell proved to be stiff competition for the young Lady Panther team, Braswell would outscore Van Alstyne, 31-10, in the last two quarters of play, ensuring a Braswell victory.
It would be a closely played game in the first half. With a score of 28-21, the game was in Braswell’s favor by the end of the half. Van Alstyne freshman Emma Donald would score four for her team leading nine points in the second quarter.
Fortune did not favor the Lady Panthers in their second game of the Highway 5 Tournament against the Melissa Lady Cardinals with a 55-28 Melissa victory on Dec. 7.
Unable to get the offense rolling, the Lady Panthers would be outscored in 3 of the 4 quarters played. Being held to zero points of offense in the second quarter. Emma Donald would lead Van Alstyne with 5 points on the day.
Melissa would glide smoothly to the victory after establishing a, 30-6, going into the second half of the game.
The Lady Panthers would drop their third and final game of the Highway 5 Tournament to the Honey Grove Lady Warriors, 59-45, on Dec. 8.
A hungry Lady Panthers offense was on full display against the Lady Warriors, unfortunately the seasoned Honey Grove team was able to pull away with the lead later in the game.
The Lady Panthers will play next at home against Lone Oak in their first district game of the year on Dec. 12.
