VAN ALSTYNE — The Lady Panthers continue their strong start to the season under first time head coach Tyler Dyer, besting Celeste by a score of, 52-41, in their non-conference home opener Saturday, Nov. 11.
The young but athletic Lady Panther team was aggressive throughout the game, as Rylee Reece snagged the ball for a total of nine rebounds, while Micah Welch was also a magnet for the basketball, racking up eight rebounds of her own. This ability to control possession helped Van Alstyne lead throughout the game.
With a total of 13 points, Emma Donald was money from the tree point line, sinking three shots from beyond the arch. Micah Welch also scored big for her team, putting up 11 points, while Breanna McCaskill followed with 7.
Cassidy Herron and Jaycee Brown from Celeste both had good nights with 12 and 10 points respectively, doing some damage to the Van Alstyne defense.
The Lady Panthers were moved to 2-0 overall on the season with their success.
Their next match-up was against Blue Ridge at home on Tuesday, Nov. 14, which resulted in Van Alstyne’s third consecutive victory of the season. The Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Tigers 45-31 in non-conference action.
The Next game for the Lady Panthers will be on Monday, Nov. 20 against the Anna Lady Coyotes at 12:30 p.m. in Anna. Van Alstyne is currently 3-0 in play, while Anna is 0-1 after falling to Greenville in their opening game of the season on Friday, Nov. 10.
