HOWE — There may not be any special trophies shared between the Howe and Van Alstyne varsity volleyball teams, though the competition is just as fierce between the two rival schools on the volleyball court as it is on the football field. The Lady Panthers swept the Lady Bulldogs in three straight sets during the conference match on Friday, Oct. 20, as the 3A Region II District 10 winds down for the 2017 season and playoff energies begin to mount.
Howe (1-20) concluded a challenging season on Oct. 20, wrapping up the District 10 action for the Lady Bulldogs, who walk away from the 2017 season with a single win on the board. Howe senior Ashlyn Ross celebrated her final season with the Lady Bulldogs as they took the court against their neighbors on US Highway 5 to add another chapter to the long running rivalry with Van Alstyne (15-12).
Ally Harvey, Jenna Honore, Kylie Hopper, Chloe Loftice and the rest of the Lady Bulldog volleyball team may be hanging it up for the season as they step off the volleyball court, but with the season wrapped, the Howe players, as well as the Lady Panthers, can now look forward to the release of the All-District team announcements.
Meanwhile, Van Alstyne has seen a strong season, last seen in action with a sweep against Whitewright in a home conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 24 after three close sets of 25-21, 25-20, 25-16. The Lady Panthers have showed themselves to be a powerful unit this season, with a number of girls shining on the court. The team success has led to the Lady Panthers qualifying for playoffs, but first they must determine their district ranking.
Prior to the playoffs, the Lady Panthers have a face-off against Leonard on Friday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. in Whitewright to determine if they will claim third place or fourth place for the season, as the two teams are currently locked in a tie.
Be sure to follow the teams online at www.VanAlstyneLeader.com/Sports as both teams await the release of the All-District selections and the Lady Panthers battle it out to determine their ranking before the playoffs.
The All-District teams will be announced after the last team from the district has finished the playoffs.
