LEONARD — The Lady Panthers won over the Lady Tigers 23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-12, 15-9 in five action-packed sets on Tuesday, Oct. 17. It was one of the most challenging matches for Van Alstyne this season, with close-scoring sets thanks to the hard work put in by Alyssa Hill who finished the game leading in kills, with 19 and three blocks.

Liz Purser had the tigers by the tail with nine kills and five blocks to contribute to the hard-won victory over Leonard. Micah Welch led the team in assists with 27, earning three aces and stacking nine kills against the district rivals. Lindi Boling led the team with 45 digs and three aces, while Jenna Leinhart proved she can be just as a formidable volleyball player as she is a cross country runner with 5 blocks against Leonard. Torin Riddick contributed to the victory with 7 kills.

Van Alstyne will next take a short trip north to take on neighbors and long-time rivals the Lady Bulldogs on Friday, Oct. 20 at Howe High School for the final match of 2017 district competition.
