CARROLLTON — Following their decisive win last week against The Colony, the Prosper High School varsity tennis team breezed past Carrollton Creekview on Tuesday, Oct. 3. Under the leadership of head coach Mandy Bowling, the Eagles are now 5-1 in district play, with its only loss happening a few weeks ago, when the Eagles dropped a home match to McKinney North back in September.

Since the loss, the team has rebounded beautifully as they have dominated the last two matches. They took down the Colony last week 12-7, and according to Bowling, they continued to improve each match.

“Each player walked on the court ready to win and didn’t let up until we were all finished,” she said. “I’m very proud of how they are improving every match.”

Among those players working hard on the court was Lilli Watson. The junior dominated in both doubles competition and singles. Watson and her doubles partner junior Meha Madriha outscored The Colony in both sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-0, and in singles play she won in another decisive match 6-3.

“[Watson] works hard every practice, plays outside of school and is out there to win,” Bowling said. “She always gives 100%.”

The varsity will be back in Prosper on Tuesday, Oct. 10 for the last district match of the fall season as they take on Lake Dallas at 4 p.m.
