DENISON — The Howe High School Lady Bulldogs basketball team took on the Anna High School Lady Coyotes and the Whitewright High School Lady Tigers at Denison High School on June 20. Howe took home a pair of summer league victories with a 39-21 win over Whitewright and a final score of 33-24 against the Lady Coyotes. Howe earned an overall summer league record of 4-2.
“I’ve just got good athletes; it makes you a good coach if you have good athletes,” Lady Bulldogs Head Coach Derek Lands said.
Having yet to win a state championship, Lands says that while he and the team look forward to taking on the best in the region at state competition, they must beat district rivals in the upcoming basketball season to make it happen.
“We got to get out of district first and it’s a pretty tough district,” Lands said. “We will just have to go from there.”
Lands will next be heading up the annual Lone Star Hoops Camp from July 10 to 13. Lands said the camp is anticipating 100 to 160 Howe elementary through middle school students. Lone Star Hoops will be held at Howe High School and will mark 17 years with Lands running the camp.
