The high school cafeteria was packed with Van Alstyne athletes, families and friends on May 18 as the Van Alstyne Athletic Booster club held its annual All-Sports Banquet.

After some brief opening remarks by Van Alstyne Athletic Director Mikeal Miller, Jeff Webster, the Voice of Van Alstyne sports, spoke about the history of the booster club.

Booster Club President Bo Mosby introduced his officers before the awards ceremony began.

The special awards at the end of the program recognize the top achievers of the 2016-17 school year.

Panther Pride award winners were Carly Ochoa and Mason Adams.

Sadie Ingram and Levi Jones were named the outstanding athletes of the year and scholastic athletes recognized were Ingram and Cage Sawyers.

Baseball coach Jimmy Haynes awarded the Fellowship of Christian Athletes awards to Sadie Ingram and Carter Morgan.

Haynes also made the presentation of the Landon B. McIntyre Scholarships to Savannah Chandler and Jimmy Head.

With her team off at the state meet, tennis coach Leigh Moreno made a video presentation and her Most Valuable Player award went to Carlie Willeford.

Softball: Peyton Welch

The booster club also gave outgoing school superintendent John Spies a special award.
