Lone Oak 6, Van Alstyne 1
The Lady Panthers gave up five runs in the first two innings to the district leading Lone Oak Lady Buffaloes before losing 6-1 at Forrest Moore Park on April 4.
Van Alstyne sophomore Jenna Williams had two hits in three trips to the plate, senior Peyton Welch was 2-for-4 and junior Madi Williams had a hit in three trips.
Lone Oak senior Mariah Nichols, an early signee for the University of Memphis, struck out 12, working out of a couple of late inning jams.
Van Alstyne got its lone run in the third, using a walk to junior Treylee Neill, her stolen base, and a two base throwing error by the Lady Buffs catcher to get on the board.
A Jenna Williams single and a walk to freshman Amryss Brogdon threatened in the Van Alstyne fifth.
In the sixth, the Lady Panthers loaded the bases on a one-out double by Madi Williams, another single by Jenna Williams, and Brogdon’s second free-pass of the contest.
Nichols fanned two to get out of that jam.
Neill reached on a fielder’s choice in the seventh, followed by a Peyton Welch single.
The Lady Panthers could not capitalize on that, losing to the Lady Buffaloes.
The Lady Panthers will travel to Whitewright, taking on the Lady Tigers in their new, hitter-friendly park, with a 7:00 start on April 7.
