The Van Alstyne track teams traveled to Melissa on March 23 to compete in the Melissa Cardinal Invitational meet. Nine boys and eight girls’ teams were in the field, more than half from Class 4A schools.


Celina won the girls’ team trophy, while the host team took the boys’ crown.


Van Alstyne girls finished third with 81 points.


Senior Hannah Taylor won the 3200-meter run and Emma Morgan finished second in the 800-meter run, and Sydney Ingram had three third place finishes to pace the Lady Panthers.


For the boys, De’Angelo Alexander finished second in the 110-meter hurdles and Jackson Rogers was second in the high jump.


The Panthers finished fourth with 70 points.


Van Alstyne has two meets on the schedule before the April 12 and April 14 District 10-3A meet in Farmersville.


On March 30, S&S will host a meet, and on April 6 Farmersville will have the final tune up.
