The Howe track program traveled to Pottsboro on March 23, battling high winds and a strong field in the Cardinal Relays.


Both the Howe boys and girls’ teams came in fourth at the event.


Sophomore Bethany Masters and junior Erin Blackburn led the Lady Bulldogs in the meet, Masters with 28 points and Blackburn had 23 of the team’s 96 total points.


Masters finished second in the triple jump, third in the long jump, and she anchored the 400 meter relay team which finished second.


Blackburn finished second in the 100-meter dash, third in the triple jump, fourth in the long jump, and she ran on two of the Lady Bulldogs’ three relay teams.


Christian Sutherland won the 3200-meter run to add 10 points to the Howe total.


The Howe boys’ team finished fourth as well, scoring 80 points at the meet.


Chase Clayton scored 18 of those points, winning the 110-hurdles and finishing second in the 300-meter hurdle race.


Zimry Witherspoon vaulted 11’6” to win the pole vault.


Senior Brent Masters finished second in the 100-meters and Ty Harvey was second by ¼ inch in the high jump.


Harvey cleared the bar at 6’ 1/2”, just behind Pottsboro senior Myles Mitchusson who jumped 6’ 3/4”.


Howe hosted a meet Thursday, the final tune up prior to the District 10-3A meet which will be contested in Farmersville on April 12 and 14.
