Two track meets and two sweeps by the Howe varsity girls and boys’ teams sounds like a pretty good start.

After winning at Blue Ridge, the Howe track program traveled to Bells on March 9, and it was not close as both teams were dominant in their wins.

The Lady Bulldogs finished first in two of the three relay events and second in the third, outpointing Whitewright, 160-136 for the win at Bells. Sophomore Bethany Masters earned 36 of those points and junior Erin Blackburn added 31.

Christian Sutherland earned her second first-place ribbon of the season in the 3200-meter run, and came in second in the 1600-meter event. Masters had first place finishes in the long jump, 300-hurdles, and she ran legs on two of those winning relay teams.

Blackburn finished first in the 100-meters, second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump, in addition to anchoring the 400-meter relay team which came in second.

Junior Ty Harvey scored 21 points for the boys and sophomore Mason Riggs added 17 as the Bulldogs outpointed Collinsville, 163.5 to 89.5. Harvey finished first in the high jump, second in the long jump and ran on the 800-meter relay team that came in third. Riggs won the 100-meters and ran on two relay teams to get his points.

Chase Clayton won the 110 hurdles and Dawson McDonald captured the triple jump as Howe won its second team title of the year.

Howe will compete at the Cardinal Relays in Pottsboro on March 23.
