Howe’s 14U All-star baseball team placed third at the state tournament. This group of boys gave it a good run for their last appearance at the Ranger Youth Baseball Tournament in Longview, held July 12-18.

Howe, sponsored by Lone Star Food Stores/Dickey’s, Waldo Funeral Home, Dean Gilbert Realtors and Howe Sonic, faced a tough battle in its first game against Whitewright, falling 8-7 in extra innings. Following the loss, they had wins against Commerce (4-0), Hawkins (7-0) and Union Grove (14-13). The squad’s final game was lost to the team that eventually won the tournament, Pineland (8-6).
