Local Students Earn OBU Scholarships

Anna resident Dillon VandenHoek has been awarded a President’s Academic Scholarship by Oklahoma Baptist University for the 2014 academic year. Presented in recognition of academic achievement, the President’s Academic Scholarship is an annual $7,000 scholarship which can be renewed for three additional years, making the honor worth a potential of $28,000. A senior at Anna High School, VandenHoek is active in marching band, concert band, jazz band and serves as worship leader for the youth group at his church. He currently plans to pursue a degree in church music. VandenHoek is a member of First Baptist Church in McKinney. OBU President David Whitlock presented a certificate of recognition to each 2014 academic scholarship recipient during a Feb. 15 ceremony on the university’s campus.

Melissa resident Alexandra Vestal has been awarded a Trustees’ Academic Scholarship by Oklahoma Baptist University for the 2014 academic year. Presented in recognition of academic achievement, the Trustees’ Academic Scholarship is an annual $9,000 scholarship which can be renewed for three additional years, making the honor worth a potential of $36,000. A senior at Melissa High School, Vestal is involved in National Honor Society, Student Council and has been on mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Chicago, Ill. Vestal plans to pursue a degree in nursing.
