1. Oktoberfest: Drawing on the colorful tradition that began in Munich, Germany in 1810, McKinney’s Oktoberfest represents many things to many people. This family-friendly event offers a celebration of tradition and the cultural contributions of German immigrants who settled in Texas. Enjoy authentic German music, food and drink, traditional costumes, dancing, and children’s activities. Germans have a special word – Gemütlichkeit – suggesting a warm atmosphere of open and generous hospitality, and with that heartfelt welcome, we greet over 50,000 guests to our Historic Downtown. The three day event begins at 4 p.m. Sept. 22.


2. Harvest Beer Dinner: The first Harvest Beer Dinner will be held on from 6-9 p.m. Sept. 21 and will kick off the 10th Annual McKinney Oktoberfest. The evening will begin at 6:30pm with a tour of Franconia’s operation by the Braumeister himself Dennis Wehrmann, then move to Harvest for a six course beer-paired menu. All beers served will be brewed in house at Harvest, at Franconia, or as a collaboration between the two. 3. Beginner/Intermediate Workshop $120: This three-hour long beginner and intermediate level workshop is an opportunity to learn how to bring that old brown piece of furniture or kitchen cabinets back to life. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 24 at Lady Butterbug, 1701 N. Waddill St., McKinney. No need to bring your furniture with you just your ideas and plans. Just bring yourself dressed in your painting clothes. Aprons, materials, drinks and snacks will be provided. Patrons will be taught four painting techniques, four brush strokes and waxing and distressing methods using Chalk Paint® and Wax. Patrons will learn how to apply your learned knowledge to paint you kitchen and bathroom cabinets. They will learn how to mix paints and discuss how to use Annie’s Color Triangle in selecting color schemes and will be painting and waxing on sample boards that you take home with you for reference. 4. BukU Fest Frisco: Scheduled to perform at Buku Fest will Tyler Layne, Baby Phazz Crew, Pynk Le’Monade, De’Stani Dalton, Laryss Olivares, Black Bettys, Cedric D’Vine, Avery*Sunshine, Marion Meadows, Ken Ford, Tim Bowman and Candy Dulfer. Tickets are already on sale for the 11 a.m. Sept. 23 event that will be held at Dr. Pepper Arena, 2601 Ave. Of The Stars, Frisco.


5. InTouch Credit Union Plano Balloon Festival: Celebrating 38 years of ballooning in Plano, the 2017 InTouch Credit Union Plano Balloon Festival is a 3-day weekend beginning at 4 p.m. Sept. 22 at Oak Point Park located at 2801 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX 75074. The weekend offers something for everyone, entertainment on the FOX 4 community stage and KLUV main stage, fireworks show, kids activities, sky divers, and an enormous variety of food, merchandise and handmade products; and of course the incredible hot air balloons. The balloons will launch Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., and Sunday at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. General admission is $5, with $1 off for Seniors age 65 and older, and kids under 36 inches receive free admission.
