First, I want to advertise a few coming events: There will be Music in the Park at 6:30, on Tuesday, July 25, hopefully in Dorothy Fielder Park. They have been rained out of the park the last two times, but our own Whistlestop Cafe has accommodated the concerts both times. Thank you so much, Whistlestop! Music will be provided by The Bodarks – a string-band describing themselves as a “porch-stompin, fiddle-sawin, bass-spankin hootenanny!” I saw a mandolin in the photo too. This will be fun!
The Senior Center will have great entertainment on the evening of Aug. 12. Tanner Young is a North Texas and Oklahoma musician playing old-country, bluegrass and gospel. He is extremely talented and a favorite in the senior center and everywhere he plays. This will be a great time and pizza will be served at 6:00 p.m. preceding the concert.
Keep Van Alstyne Beautiful is going to take it a little easier on their membership for a while. Watch for further notice of meeting dates, but their intent is to hold meetings only every other month beginning in September, and to plan quarterly city cleanups. This group has always been a boon to Van Alstyne. They have worked so very hard, and I am not surprised that they want to catch a breath.
Our city council, city manager, engineer and public works director have met in a water/sewer workshop. The newsletter that comes with your water bill in August will contain the reasons for our Fiscal Year 2017-2018 water rates and hopefully a good explanation of the plan. This is no one’s favorite topic, but we will try to be helpful in your understanding of the rationale.
I wish you all well and hope your ACs are working. I know that our HVAC businesses are busy right now.
