Fellow citizens,

I read in the Herald Democrat this morning that there will be an appliance, furniture, scrap metal drop off available at the Precinct 1 Barn on FM 1417, one mile east of Highway 75 beginning at 7:30 a.m. and concluding at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11. They will not, however, be collecting household garbage or hazardous materials. Our county commissioner, Jeff Whitmire, has arranged for this and many of us may need to take advantage of it. I believe that I will.

I see on the city’s web site that the new trash and recyclable schedule is not up. We will get that corrected as soon as possible. I regret any inconvenience. Republic intends to pick up remaining trash receptacles sometime this week. Just leave them out for them.

Keep Van Alstyne Beautiful is as busy as ever. This past Saturday from 10:30 to about 12:30 they picked up bags and bags of trash, and a pickup truck load of branches, old rotten lumber, etc. here in our city. These are wonderful volunteers and I hope you will join them. I believe that the plan is to do cleanups after the Friends of the Library concludes their monthly breakfast at the Community Center on the first Saturday of each month. This is great citizenship.

God bless you all.

Yours truly,

Mayor Larry Cooper
