Ramon Guerra, 83, of San Antonio, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. He was born on March 9, 1934 in Sejita, Texas to the late Abraham and Victoria Guerra.
He married Amanda Guerra on March 6, 1960 and began his life as a wonderful husband and father.
He was a successful rancher and farmer and was a true believer in helping anyone who was less fortunate. He was a lifelong Democrat, served as Justice of the Peace for 20 years, and stood strongly behind his political beliefs. Although his formal schooling was limited, he was an advocate for education and served many years as the President of the Ramirez School Board.
He was a loyal friend, never met a stranger, and saw the absolute good in everyone he met; but his greatest accomplishment was his family. He raised four daughters with an enormous amount of love, understanding and compassion. He gained four sons when they married and they were the pride and joy of his life.
He and Amanda retired to San Antonio to be closer to their daughters. He transitioned into city life with ease and began another chapter in his life. He loved his daily lunch outings, shopping, meeting new people and tending his garden. He lived his life with true purpose and was an eternal optimist regardless of the challenges he faced. He was an amazing husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. He was special to everyone who knew him. We will miss him but find solace that he is having eternal peace with our mom.
He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Vela (Jesse), Nora Howe (Brett), Elsa Guerra-Hinojosa (Saul) and Tricia Silva (Martin); nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Ruben and Rene Guerra (Ercilia); brother-in-law, Robert Leal (Pearl); sisters-in-law, Josie Pantoja and Gracie Barrera (Enrique); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is especially grateful to Elizabeth Carvajal, his wonderful caretaker, Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital, Dr. Fernando Aguirre, Dr. Homer Reyes, Dr. Steven Kalter, Joey Dixon-Julian, PA, and all of their staffs for their amazing care and compassion over the years.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North, Friday, August 11, 2017. Celebration of Life reception will be Saturday, August 12, from 1:00-5:00 pm, at the Hinojosa residence (11211 Hunters Path in Helotes).
