Valerie Sue Brown
VAN ALSTYNE — Valerie Sue Brown died May 6 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Mrs. Brown was born on June 5, 1951 in Yuma, Arizona to Thomas and Mildred McKay. She graduated from high school in Westminster where she met the love of her life, Rickey Brown. They married in July 1970 and had two children, Rickey Jr. and Tina. The family moved to Van Alstyne, Texas, where they have resided for the past 30 plus years. She spent over 25 years working in various positions at Texas Instruments.
Valerie was a fiercely loyal friend, daughter, wife and mother. She saw beyond ethnicity, religion and politics and loved and defended her people unconditionally, setting an example of true unconditional love. There was nothing more important to Valerie than spending time with her loved ones. Valerie always thought of others before herself and would sacrifice to see them happy and taken care of. Grandchildren were one of her dearest dreams and the birth of her grandson, Jayden Potter, was one of the happiest moments of her life.
Preceding Valerie in death was her father Thomas McKay, sister: Shirley McKay and brother: Tommy McKay. Surviving are her mother Mildred McKay Cody, brother Butch McKay and wife Linda, husband Rickey Sr., son Rickey Jr. and wife Christa and granddaughter Katie Sue, daughter Tina Potter and husband Justin and grandson Jayden.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Carol and David Likely for their friendship and support.
