One person was found dead after a house fire at 900 N. Mississippi St. Saturday morning. 26 firefighters in eight units of the Amarillo Fire Department arrived on scene, four minutes after dispatch received the call at the Amarillo Emergency Communications Center at 8:17 a.m.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions as heavy fire and smoke was coming from the home. It took 42 minutes to bring the fire under control. While two occupants were able to escape from the home, another occupant did not. Firefighters located the victim and were able to pull them from the home. American Medical Response and AFD personnel tried to resuscitate the victim to no avail. The person was declared deceased at the scene.

No other injuries were reported. The Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office responded to the scene and ruled the cause of the fire accidental. Property damages are estimated at $30,000.
