Center City will “Create!” again this year in a Friday evening party celebrating art and giving attendees an opportunity to participate and not just view the work of professionals.
“Create! Art Party” is Center City’s biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Beth Duke, executive director of Center City. “Money we make from Create! helps Center City support activities throughout the year including High Noon on the Square, Jazztober, the Electric Light Parade and Amarillo Community Market.”
Create!, which last year was the first event held in the Embassy Suites, has included a Saturday component for families during its first two years. This year, however, the event will move to 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17 at the Embassy Suites Amarillo Downtown, 550 S. Buchanan St.
“Create! celebrates creativity in visual and performing arts. One thing that makes our party different is that we provide opportunities for guests to create their own art,” Duke said.
For the $50 cost of the evening, participants will have the opportunity to participate in leather craft, singing and painting as well as bid on auction items by local artists and enjoy food and beverages and a coffee cart from Palace coffee. Tables also available for10 for $1,000. Sponsorships tables for $2,500 include a VIP party from 6-7 p.m.
Create! also will include an art show and sale with guest artists including Kent Harris, Ginger Nelson, David Corbin, Ralph Duke and Jim Womack.
Specific activities include making stamp art with the Amarillo Museum of art, painting with Burns Studio Sing karaoke with Katie Eddins and learning leathercraft with Craft house. Kyle Singleton will provide caricature drawings.
A photo booth is also available, and James Owens will provide live music.
“Center City applied with the Texas Commission on the Arts to become a designated Cultural District. The Amarillo Cultural District became official in 2016,” Duke said. “With Create! we are celebrating all the great artistic culture our city has to offer,” Duke said.
