The May 5 city election will have voters either reelecting Van Alstyne City Council members or replacing them.

The Places 1, 2 and 3 seats are up for vote. These are currently held by Brad Clough, Teddie Ann Salmon and Robert Jaska, respectively. Clough and Jaska will have completed their two-year terms and Salmon has been on the council for a year, completing the remainder of a 2-year term left vacant by the 2016 resignation of elected council member Timmerle Kelly.

The Van Alstyne city clerk said that those interested in running can sign up between Jan. 17 and Feb. 16 at City Hall. Soon, she said, there will be sign-up packets available for pickup at City Hall, followed by an online sign-up link capability.

A person who is considering filing for election to one of these three seats can find out more about the qualifications online at the Texas Municipal League Website by clicking on “directories” and following up there. The Texas Municipal League website is and the City of Van Alstyne Website is
