Between Dec. 4 and Dec. 11, Van Alstyne police answered 227 calls for service and responded to seven incidents.

Chief Tim Barnes reported that at about 1:35 a.m. Sunday morning, an altercation began between two men, ages 24 and 35, at the Hackberry Apartments. Police were called and arrived, but both people had left.

Barnes said that later, they learned that the men and the argument had picked up in the 400 block of Tolson. The 35-year-old victim of several stab wounds identified his assailant as 24-year-old Jeffery Coleman, who had left him between the street and the yard. Somehow, the victim managed to call for help.

Van Alstyne EMS took the victim to a nearby hospital for his injuries, and they are reported as being life-threatening, Barnes said.

The consumption of alcohol does appear to have been a contributing factor in this altercation, Barnes said.

Police found the suspect and jailed him in Grayson County Jail on a Felony 2 charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a Misdemeanor B charge of failure to identify by giving a false name. The suspect remained incarcerated as of Tuesday on bail set at $26,000 total, payable in surety bonds.
