Public Works technicians from Howe and Whitewright assisted those from Van Alstyne to stop a major water leak at the corner of Sherman and Clements streets Tuesday evening. It was a Code Red notification that went to Van Alstyne residents who had signed up for Code Red, asking everyone to stop major water usage until this problem could be repaired. The Code Red message asked that no one wash cars, use dishwashers or washing machines, water lawns, or other such major uses of city water. A second Code Red message came across phone lines about 2 hours later, saying that the Texas Department of Environmental Quality is advising everyone to boil their water before any sort of consumption, such as cooking, cleaning, or brushing one’s teeth.
