Van Alstyne High School had a victorious Homecoming weekend that was sure to leave all Panthers fans pleased. The game played on Friday, Sept. 29 turned out to be one for the books when an outstanding last minute play turned a tied game into a Panthers win in a Homecoming victory that is surly still being talked about.

With the game tied against Gainsville, Panther Ty Cosper returned an interception for a 100 plus yard game winning touchdown. Gainsville had been attempting a game winning pass to the end zone from midfield with .2 left on the clock when the ball was tipped, hit a player’s helmet, bounced into a player’s leg and ended up in Cosper’s hands before the stunning final play was made. Panthers Stadium exploded into stunnded and joyous cries.

The Homecoming court females consisted of Gwyn Tyson, Dakota Kern, Faith Griffin, Lauren De Luna and Homecoming Queen Emma Morgan. Morgan —who was recently named a National Merit Scholar semifinalist —was an excellent selection for VAHS representation, as she also runs cross-country, cheerleads and is invovled in mission trips amongst her many Panthers roles. Andres Tarango joined Morgan as the 2017 VAHS Homecoming King, with the duo being crowned at Panthers Stadium under the Friday night lights.

All in all, Van Alstyne had much to be proud of Friday night.
