The Sherman Chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization recently awarded three young women from the Texoma area with college scholarships following their graduation from high school.

The PEO awarded $300 scholarships to Laci Eakin, Claire Olmstead and Alyssa Price. Eakin is a graduate of Van Alstyne High School and plans to attend Grayson College, where she will study nursing. Olmstead is a graduate of Texoma Christian School and plans to study business and finance at the University of Redlands in California. Price is a Whitesboro High School graduate and will attend West Texas A&M University, where she will study music therapy.

The mission of the PEO is to promote educational opportunities for women. The organization was founded in 1869 by seven students of Iowa Wesleyan University, but has since grown to include nearly 250,000 members in chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada.
